Football transfer window delayed until February

THE November start of the community football transfer period has been cancelled due to a changeover of registration systems. The transfer window, that would ordinarily be open to leagues from November 1 to November 30, will not be open in 2021. The transfer window will be delayed from opening until 1 February 2022. The AFL is moving from GameDay to PlayHQ as the online platform for community sport under its umbrella. As a part of the move, which is scheduled to begin at the end of October, clubs and leagues must be introduced to the new system. READ MORE: AFL Wimmera Mallee area manager Jason Muldoon said the change was so everyone could be trained on how to use the new registration system. “This is a new system, it’s very different to what we’ve had,” Muldoon said. “Therefore there’s going to be that learning and changeover period; we’ve already started that process at league level. “Clubs will then become our focus now around learning how to use the new system. “It’s just a matter of training people to be able to use it; it’s actually a much easier system to use.” MORE NEWS: Muldoon said that delaying the start to this transfer period simplified the process of moving to PlayHQ. “We can’t transfer anything over until the night between October 31and the November 1,” he said. “We’re cancelling that transfer period because we want clubs to be able to set up and monitor those transfers before they happen. “It was decided to scrap that transfer period, which forms of the, the smallest part of our transfer window anyway; not many people use it over that November period. “There was certainly no hesitation in allowing clubs to get set up with the new PlayHQ system before opened up transfers.” The new transfer window opens on February 1, 2022.
